This experientially oriented course focuses the teacher’s role in the classroom. “There is no school that is better than its teachers.” This introspective course will identify the characteristics and skills of successful teachers and offer strategies to consistently make lessons that engage and inspire students. Discussion topics include why you initially chose the teaching profession, the power of your position, how teachers influence and mold the future of their students, understanding how the relationships you create with students, parents, and colleagues can help pave the path to great teaching.​

21st Century Thinking Skills That Promote College & Career Readiness

This experientially oriented course focuses on how K-12 teachers can help their students become better thinkers and learners. This course focuses on exploring strategies for incorporating students’ higher-order thinking skills into classroom practices. In doing so, students become critical and creative thinkers and communicators who are able to work collaboratively while embracing diverse perspectives in a global community. Diving into the six components of 21st century learning and incorporating social-emotional skills into the classroom will boost student engagement and better prepare them for life beyond high school.

​Mindset & Mindfulness in the Classroom

This experientially oriented course focuses on the value of incorporating mindsets and mindfulness in the classroom in a variety of ways. Growth mindsets are responsible for increasing student achievement; Once students believe their intelligence is changeable, effort becomes more meaningful and mistakes become opportunities. Research indicates the benefits of mindfulness increases test scores, lowers stress, and gives students the opportunity to self-regulate. This course offers strategies and activities to apply the benefits of both mindsets and mindfulness in the classroom.

Stress Strategies for a Healthy Life

 This experientially oriented course focuses on how to manage stress in a fast-paced world. Stress is an inevitable part of life. This interactive workshop covers stress both inside and outside of the classroom and is designed to empower teachers with effective tools and techniques to manage stress, enhance resilience, and promote overall health. Through a blend of informational sessions, practical exercises, and group discussions, participants will learn how to identify stressors and implement coping strategies for themselves and the students they teach.

Empowering Educators to Support Student Mental Health

​

This experientially oriented course aims to bridge the gap by empowering teachers with essential knowledge and practical skills to support student mental health. A wide variety of mental health issues are covered including trauma-related stress, attention disorders, anxiety, and depression. Participants will learn to recognize early warning signs and understand the impact of mental health on learning and behavior. Through interactive discussions, real-life scenarios, and hands-on learning, educators will gain practical strategies to create an emotionally supportive classroom environment.​​

Understanding by Design: Backwards Planning

​

July 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th, 2025  (8:30-4:30)

Course Description: EDUC-580-N2120

 

This course introduces the idea of backwards planning when it comes to designing a unit.  Students have the chance to participate in the process of “Understanding by Design” (UbD) while creating a unit by designing it backwards with the end in mind first. This involves first analyzing the standards and end goals of a unit and then implementing lessons that meet those standards and goals.  By using this backwards design process, there is a much higher chance of students achieving mastery of standards in the classroom.

If teachers don’t take time to de-stress and rejuvenate themselves, they often experience burnout. This course offers strategies and techniques to return to the classroom with renewed energy and patience.
